DETEL Participates in "Read for the Record" Event
Jan 13, 2012
DETEL representatives, Brandi Dubea and Saleria McManus, facilitated participation in the “Read for the Record” event, hosted on October 6th, 2011 at the DETEL office located in Hessmer, Louisiana. This year, Tangipahoa Parish students heard the selection, “Llama Llama Red Pajama,” written by Anna Dewdney. The story was narrated by DETEL Sales Representative Brandi Dubea from the DETEL Conference room and was transmitted live, through a video conference connection, to the 2nd grade classroom students at the Hammond Westside Montessori School. The Hammond students were led by school staff member Kathy Prine and DETEL Education Trainer Saleria McManus.
Each year, millions of adults and children gather on a single day to set a new reading record and to show their support for early literacy by joining Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. The event begins with a star-studded kick-off at NBC’s TODAY Show, and the 2011 event broke two World Reading Records. Millions of readers joined together to set the two records for the greatest number of people reading the same book in a single day and the most people who read the same book online in a single day!
